PROJECT ZIMPOWER

We are working with Reading-based charity Creating Better Futures with the vision of empowering young women within the rural area of the Domboshowa region in Zimbabwe.
We discovered that 30% of girls in this area do not go to school during their periods - that's 48 days a year! This project aims to create a co-operative where these women will learn to make their own reusable sanitary towels from local materials which they can then both use & sell to make their own money. We hope that this will enable these girls to stay in school as education is the most powerful tool to tackle poverty.
We are also looking to build a skills centre in which classes will be held, educating the women on matters such as sexual health and clean drinking water.
