Project Revitalise

Revitalise aims to increase mobility and social engagement amongst elderly people around Reading. We want to tackle the loneliness and boredom elderly people face in our community by providing light, fun exercise classes run by students. We want to bring residents together with lively music, equipment and themes each week with the central aim of increasing exercise participation. Currently, we are working with Willows residential home in Reading, to get residents active and pumped up in the comfort of their own homes.

Research suggests that exercise helps combat infections and diseases, improves mood and overall health. In addition, we hope that our weekly classes will be a great way of establishing a relationship between young people and the elderly as recent studies have suggested that young people’s engagement with people with dementia can have a stimulating effect on the memory! Eventually we hope to roll out our classes to several care homes in Reading and recruit more students to grow our team of volunteers. The money we raise from the classes will be used to improve each session, and the remainder will be put into the other Enactus projects we run.
